Barring further change of plans, redshirt freshman Jack Tyler likely will draw his first college start when Virginia Tech meets Stanford in Monday night's Orange Bowl.

Hokies defensive coordinator Bud Foster said Friday that Tyler "will probably start the game" at the mike linebacker spot, with first-year starter Bruce Taylor moving to the backer spot. The Hokies are short at backer after starter Lyndell Gibson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Tech's win over Florida State in the Dec. 4 ACC championship game.
