Appointed to his post by Gov. Bob McDonnell in January, Connaughton has scheduled meetings with state and local officials, transportation planners and transit providers to discuss local and regional highway and transportation needs. Before hitting the road, Connaughton talked about the future of passenger rail service in Virginia and the possibility of tolls on Interstate 81.

?You are scheduled to meet with local officials in the northern portion of the Interstate 81 corridor in mid-May, plan to meet with officials in Salem and Roanoke in late May and have trips scheduled farther south and west in June and July. I gather you think it's important to get out of Richmond and meet folks face to face.
