Summary


The General Assembly is currently considering a bill that would punish a guy for not being poor. House Bill 728, as introduced by Delegate David Albo, provides that no person may be released to a pretrial services agency in lieu of posting a secure bond unless he is determined by the court to be indigent.

In essence, it would require an individual accused of a crime to post bond -- solely because he is not indigent. If he were indigent, he would be eligible for supervised release into the community under the local pretrial services agency.
