Summary
The General Assembly is currently considering a bill that would punish a guy for not being poor. House Bill 728, as introduced by Delegate David Albo, provides that no person may be released to a pretrial services agency in lieu of posting a secure bond unless he is determined by the court to be indigent.
In essence, it would require an individual accused of a crime to post bond -- solely because he is not indigent. If he were indigent, he would be eligible for supervised release into the community under the local pretrial services agency.See the full content of this document
