Roanoke police have long embraced community policing and interactions with residents to prevent and solve crimes. Now, the department is turning to social media to connect with Roanokers, aiming to solve crimes and share crime trends and department news.

Police Chief Chris Perkins said the department will begin using its Facebook page to profile unsolved homicides, publish crime maps and trends, promote safety events and share crime-prevention tips.
