Rain Helps Crews Beat Tinker Mountain Fire

Summary


Monday evening's rain boosted firefighters' efforts to contain the Tinker Mountain wildfire that began burning Sunday as the result of a lightning strike in Botetourt County.

About 36 firefighters remained on the scene Tuesday, when Denny McCarthy, an assistant regional forester for the Virginia Department of Forestry, said that the fire was about 50 percent contained at about 13 acres.
