Summary


The lazy days of summer remind me of Sunday dinner at my grandmother's house. My siblings and I would load into my parents' Monte Carlo and take the winding country roads to Grandma's for some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten.

I have since rediscovered that experience at the Homeplace in Catawba. This unique restaurant serves some of the best country food you will find anywhere, and to top that off, it's all-you-can- eat and it's served family style.

The history

According to the restaurant menu, the Homeplace was built on a 600-acre tract by the John Morgan family in 1907. The menu, which also serves as a placemat, says the family raised horses and cattle and at one time ran a dairy farm.
