Summary


Last Election Day, when Washington state voters weighed in on whether to privatize state-run liquor stores, their referendum didn't escape the notice of some in Virginia.

Ever since Gov. Bob McDonnell pulled together a commission to explore how the commonwealth could sell off its monopoly, some Democrats have called for letting the people decide. McDonnell had been able to duck "the referendum demand" until the call came from the people, or at least from one caller to his radio show.
