It's been 18 years since Judy Barr led a group from Southwest Virginia on an improbable trip to Russia.
The Iron Curtain had finally fallen. Barr, then a Fairlawn Elementary School principal who had never been on an airplane, was invited by a Russian educator she'd met to visit Pereslavl- Zalessky, a city 80 miles north of Moscow. She recruited a group of 16 friends, and they embarked in July 1992 for the land Winston Churchill once called "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma."See the full content of this document
