Gov. Bob McDonnell on Friday challenged his handpicked commission on government reform to find ways to make the state bureaucracy "more efficient" and "more user-friendly" and renewed his call to privatize Virginia's retail liquor sales.
McDonnell told members of his Commission on Government Reform and Restructuring that he wants bold ideas for consolidating or privatizing certain state government functions, making greater use of technology and getting rid of "things that don't work." The 31- member panel held its first meeting Friday and is expected to produce some recommendations in late August.
