Lions Clubs International holds convention

Lions Clubs International (LCI), the world's largest service organization with approximately 1.35 million members in more than 45,000 clubs, held its 94th International Convention July 4-8 in Seattle, Wash. The convention increased the population of the Seattle area by approximately 17,000. It drew members, their families and friends from around the world. Among the convention highlights was a Parade of Nations on July 5 with 10,000 Lions from 100 countries, many in native dress, along with marching bands and colorful floats. On July 6, a presentation was made to winners of the LCI Peace Poster Contest, and the Power of Peace Essay Contest for blind and visually impaired students. On July 8, Wing-Kun Tam (center) of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, The People's Republic of China, was elected the new president for the fiscal year 2011-2012.
