Another Aqua Virginia rate increase is pending at the State Corporation Commission and many of the more than 2,000 aqua customers in the Blue Ridge and Cloverdale areas are livid.
At the meeting at Rainbow Forest Baptist Church on Jan. 25, citizens asked, "What are we paying the county administrators for?" when Valley District Supervisor Don Assaid told the crowd that county administration had told him and Blue Ridge rep Billy Martin that "they don't get involved with utility companies and rate increases." Citizens also protested that increased bills from utilities to the new real estate assessment increase are going up faster than salaries.
