Summary


Xinachtli Mexican restaurant is tucked into a shoebox-sized place at the corner of East Main and College streets in Salem, across the street from Roanoke College and where Claudia's Blues Cafe charmed us in the past. The restaurant, which opened in August, serves a steady stream of customers all day long.

Joel Rodriguez and Rubi Lopez, the husband-and-wife team who own Xinachtli, dish up homestyle Mexican food for breakfast, lunch and snacks until closing. Rodriguez takes care of the front of the house with cordial efficiency, while Lopez cooks -- almost nonstop - - in the tiny kitchen, preparing fresh meals as they are ordered.
