Fairlawn Sewer Rates Set to Rise

Health Inspectors Neglect 6 Area Schools

The local health department failed to inspect food safety in six Montgomery County schools' cafeterias twice in the past school year, as a federal law mandates. Price's Fork, Shawsville and Belview elementary schools, and Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Shawsville middle schools did not meet with the minimum of two food safety inspections in the 2008- 09 school year required under the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004.

Giles Co. Towns to Combine Sewer Services

The federal government will provide more than $6 million in grants and loans to connect the Rich Creek and Glen Lyn sewage systems and expand the Glen Lyn sewage plant to serve both towns. U.S. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, said last week he arranged for the money to be provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Agency.
